What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy, or hypnosis is a deep state of relaxation or trance. It is a wonderful feeling and experience, whether you come to me for relaxation or to deal with traumatic issues, most people really enjoy being in trance.

Let me dispel any misconceptions…. Hypnosis does not involve a person being ‘put into a deep sleep’ – you are fully aware of everything that is going on around you and in full control, you could open your eyes at anytime and walk away – although you won’t want to!

We often naturally go into a hypnotic state throughout each day, we may find ourselves lost in our thoughts, drifting away with music or simply day dreaming out of the window. The difference being during hypnosis I will guide you, as your therapist, to a new mental state to allow you to change your habits, treat conditions or instil new behaviours.

Clinical hypnotherapy can alleviate a variety of physical and psychological symptoms. Sessions will usually last around 50-60 minutes and varied amounts of sessions are needed for each individual and everyone is different.
Hypnotherapy can only work if you really want it to. For example, I cannot make you stop smoking you have to want to become a non-smoker.

Hypnotherapy can be used to treat a wide variety of issues and along with EMDR (eye movement desensitisation and reprogramming) we can achieve many fantastic results. Hypnotherapy is endorsed by both British and American Medical Associations and EMDR is recognised by NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) and WHO (World Health Organisation) as an effective treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and anxiety related disorders.
